ACKC Campaign for Federal Research Funding

ACKC meets with Congresswoman Nita Lowey in her local office.

In the FY2017 budget, Congress appropriated $10 million to establish the Kidney Cancer Research Program (KCRP) as part of the Department of Defense’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs. In FY2018, Congress increased the KCRP budget by 50% to $15 million and in FY2019, it increased it to $20 million.

Action to Cure Kidney Cancer’s President Jay Bitkower, stated that “On behalf of the more than 500,000 Americans living with this devastating disease and the 73,800 Americans who are newly diagnosed each year, we are very grateful to Congress for funding the research that will hopefully find a cure and develop early detection methods to help prevent kidney cancer from becoming metastatic.”

We owe a special thank you to Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY), the House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member, who spearheaded this effort.

Action to Cure Kidney Cancer

ACKC is the world’s leading voluntary advocacy organization that focuses mainly on increasing government funding for kidney cancer research. During our first 12 years of campaigning, Congress appropriated $13 million, funding 19 kidney cancer researchers. In the last three years, $45 million has been appropriated for kidney cancer research. We have been joined in our campaigns by many volunteers and other kidney cancer organizations. Our goal is to end kidney cancer as a lethal disease.

You can help us achieve our goals by making a donation or by joining us as a volunteer.
